Spotlight: BIMcollab Zoom 9.10, and a check that groups before you run it

BIMcollab Zoom 9.10 stores IDS and clash grouping on the check. What BIM leads should test before they report one Smart Issue per floor.

Yesterday’s leftover CDE note was BIMcloud public links. The unused checking note is BIMcollab Zoom Build 9.10. It is the current Windows and Mac download. The previous dated Zoom notes were Build 9.9.3 on 11 August. The Windows installer filename is dated 14 October.

That is not a new clash engine. Firms already run an IDS, get a thousand missing fire-rating properties, then spend the morning grouping them by floor before anyone will accept a Smart Issue. Zoom 9.10 puts that grouping on the specification, so the next person who runs the check gets the same pile.

What actually changed

IDS result grouping is the headline. In the BIMcollab space, a project leader can turn on Custom grouping on a specification. The options are a property, nearest grid, and story level. Properties from the requirements section can be used if they apply. When Zoom runs the spec, it applies those settings. You can still change grouping after the run. Run it again and the spec wins.

Clash rules get a stored grouping at creation. The clash how-to still defaults results to source component, nearest grid and story level, plus one property if you pick one. After-run grouping is not new. The 9.10 change is that the grouping can ride with the shared rule instead of living in whoever last clicked Change grouping settings.

The same notes add IfcMapConversion and IfcProjectedCRS as project properties, so you can check the coordinate system without opening the IFC in a text editor. Alignment itself is older: Extra, Settings, Model, Use georeferencing, off by default since Zoom 9.3. Mixed IFC4 files, some with MapConversion and some without, still drop the unreferenced model out of view. 9.10 also fixes elevation and floorplans on georeferenced IFC, including sites whose IfcSIUnit is not metres.

IDS material checks now use both the material name and the material category. List results can open hyperlinks. Pivot List exports can expand nested cells, Windows only.

The deadline that is not a feature: after 19 October, Navisworks BCF Manager 7.2.12 cannot connect to BIMcollab projects. The download centre lists Windows build 7.2.99. Check Info on the BCF Manager menu before Monday.

Zoom Viewer cannot run clashes. IDS still needs a space licence to write the spec and a Zoom licence to check it. Help still says Zoom does not verify the IFC data type, only the value, and IDS does not currently support IFC 4.3. Do not delete a clash rule that already has Smart Issues. Archive it with a prefix.

What a BIM or VDC lead should do

Do not rewrite the coordination standard because a group can now ride with the spec. The rules in our clash note still hold: someone owns the issue, a due date exists, and the model is coordinated only after the second federation.

If the firm already lives in Zoom, this is worth a side-by-side on one live job. Download 9.10. Store grouping on one IDS and one clash rule. Then ask four questions: does a second machine apply the same grouping on first run; does a rerun wipe the grouping you changed in the results panel; do IfcMapConversion values match the CRS you already trust from the survey; and does Navisworks 7.2.12 still connect today, given it will not after 19 October.

Do not treat a passed IDS check as proof the property is stored as IfcLabel. Count who is a project leader before you tell the room that anyone can lock the grouping.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

What did BIMcollab ship in Zoom 9.10?

Build 9.10 is now the current Zoom download. A project leader can store IDS result grouping on the specification. Clash rules can store grouping when they are created. IfcMapConversion and IfcProjectedCRS appear as project properties. IDS material checks now use both the material name and the material category.

Does grouping on the specification replace grouping in Zoom?

No. You can still click Change grouping settings after a run. Help says a rerun reapplies the grouping stored on the IDS. Clash results still default to source component, nearest grid and story level unless the rule or the results panel says otherwise.

What happens to Navisworks on 19 October?

BIMcollab says Navisworks BCF Manager 7.2.12 will no longer connect to BIMcollab projects for issue management after 19 October 2026. The download centre lists Windows build 7.2.99. Check the version under BCF Manager, Info.

Does a passed IDS check prove the IFC data type is correct?

No. Help says Zoom checks the value, not whether the property is stored as the selected IFC data type. IDS in BIMcollab also does not currently support IFC 4.3.
